Clippers give Rivers 5-year extension

LOS ANGELES (AP) Doc Rivers is staying with the Los Angeles Clippers for another five years.

In Steve Ballmer's first big move since taking over as the new owner, he gave Rivers a contract extension through the 2018-19 season.

Ballmer said Wednesday it was one of his top priorities to ensure that Rivers remains as the long-term leader of the team. Rivers was a stabilizing force for the franchise during the upheaval created by former owner Donald Sterling's racist remarks that led to his ouster after 33 years of ownership.

Celtics' Green donates $1M to Georgetown

WASHINGTON (AP) Boston Celtics forward Jeff Green is donating $1 million to Georgetown's new athletic center.

The university announced the gift from the former Hoyas star on Thursday, Green's 28th birthday. He helped lead Georgetown to the Final Four in 2007 and was the No. 5 overall pick in the NBA draft that year.

Veteran G Brown signs with Heat

MIAMI (AP) Shannon Brown signed Wednesday with the Miami Heat, the ninth team the veteran guard has been part of in his career.

Brown appeared in 29 games last season with New York and San Antonio. He has appeared in 403 games for seven different clubs, and was briefly with Washington last season though never appeared in a game.

Rockets sign F Black

HOUSTON (AP) The Houston Rockets have signed forward Tarik Black, who played on their summer league teams in Orlando and Las Vegas.

The 6-foot-8 Black played two seasons at Memphis and one at Kansas, averaging 8.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in his career. In his lone season at Kansas, he was named preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and went on to average 15 points per game in the NCAA Tournament.

Davis scores 18, US rolls past Slovenia

LAS PALMAS, Canary Islands (AP) Mike Krzyzewski's big men had barely finished pushing around Slovenia when he was asked how they would match up with Spain's imposing frontcourt.

"I'm not going to compare. I haven't seen Spain play," Krzyzewski said. "If we play Spain, it's a long way away. So I'm just concentrating on U.S. and trying to get better."

NBA unveils rules to make baseline safer

(AP) -- The NBA is expanding the area that must be clear behind the basket and cutting the number of photographers along the baseline in an effort to improve player safety.

The new regulations, calling for an extra foot of open space on both sides of the basket stanchion, were sent to teams Tuesday by league president of operations Rod Thorn and executive vice president of team marketing and business operations Amy Brooks in a memo that was obtained by The Associated Press.

Wiggins, new Wolves get warm welcome

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (AP) Andrew Wiggins spent the previous month seemingly in hiding, side-stepping questions about a trade that was all but finished and coming to the realization he was not going to be teammates with LeBron James.

On Tuesday - finally - Wiggins and the rest of the new Minnesota Timberwolves got to address the issue head on and have their moment in the sun.

Bucks acquire F Dudley from Clippers

MILWAUKEE (AP) Small forward Jared Dudley is going to the Milwaukee Bucks.

The seven-year veteran was dealt by the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday in exchange for forward Carlos Delfino, backup center Miroslav Raduljica and a 2015 second-round draft pick. The Bucks are also receiving a conditional 2017 first-round pick.

Backup F Scott re-signs with Hawks

ATLANTA (AP) The Atlanta Hawks have re-signed Mike Scott, who improved his 3-point shot in his second season and almost doubled his scoring average.

General manager Danny Ferry says the 6-foot-8 forward impressed the team by expanding his game. Terms of the deal were not released.
