Analysis: The commissioner's office announced the penalty Wednesday. Unless he appeals, Mesoraco will begin serving his suspension Wednesday night against San Diego. The rookie was ejected for arguing balls and strikes during Monday night's 11-5 loss to the Padres. Before leaving the field, he poked a finger at plate umpire Chad Fairchild's chest protector and bumped him.

Analysis: Mesoraco objected when Fairchild called a close pitch a ball with San Diego's Chase Headley at bat in the third inning and the Padres leading 9-3.
