|The Denver Broncos have promoted Bush to their 53-man roster and replaced him on the practice squad with guard Jon Halapio. The Broncos had an open spot on their roster after putting linebacker Danny Trevathan (knee) on IR and waiving tight end Dominique Jones.
Analysis: Bush had been on Denver's practice squad for a month. He's a third-year pro who's appeared in 35 games with the New York Jets from 2012-14 after the Jets selected him in the sixth round out of Wake Forest.

|Rivers didn't practice Wednesday, although he participated in a morning walkthrough and said he expects to play Saturday night against the San Francisco 49ers. Says Rivers: "At this point in the week I have no doubt" about playing when the Chargers (8-6) try to keep alive their playoff hopes.
Analysis: He's listed as having chest and back injuries, although the team hasn't been specific about them. Many people suspect he has a rib injury. Rivers says he hates not practicing, but adds: "Practicing today just wouldn't have been beneficial moving toward Saturday."

|The Houston Texans haven't decided if Thad Lewis or Keenum will start on Sunday against Baltimore.
Analysis: Keenum started eight games for the Texans last year, losing all of them, before he was released in August when Ryan Mallett was acquired in a trade. He was on the St. Louis practice squad but signed with Houston after the Texans' loss on Sunday to Indianapolis included Ryan Fitzpatrick breaking his leg and rookie Tom Savage suffering a knee injury.

|The Houston Texans haven't decided if Lewis or Case Keenum will start on Sunday against Baltimore.
Analysis: Lewis was signed on Nov. 26 after being released by the Bills in training camp. He went 2-3 in five starts for the Bills last year. Coach Bill O'Brien said he's close to making a decision on a starter, but that he doesn't plan to announce his choice before Sunday.

|Harvin has sat out practice while resting his severely sprained left ankle, which he played through Sunday at Tennessee. Harvin's availability Sunday against New England is uncertain, but he says the ankle feels "a lot better" than it did a week ago. He adds that he hopes to practice Thursday.
Analysis: Coach Rex Ryan said Wednesday that Harvin suffered a third-degree sprain two weeks ago at Minnesota, meaning the ligament is completely torn. Despite the injury, Harvin played against the Vikings, something Ryan says "very few guys will play off of." He had no catches, but had a 10-yard run and returned a kickoff 33 yards.

|The Minnesota Vikings have promoted Dixon from the practice squad to the active roster.
Analysis: The Vikings announced the move on Wednesday as they started preparation for a game at Miami on Sunday. Dixon started the season with the Dallas Cowboys before being waived and signed to the Vikings practice squad in September. Coach Mike Zimmer says they want to get a look at Dixon as a guy who may be able to help them down the road.

|McDonald was released Wednesday by the San Francisco 49ers amid an investigation by San Jose police into McDonald on suspicion of sexual assault.
Analysis: San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said he informed McDonald and his agent by phone at 11:30 a.m. PST that the defender is "terminated." McDonald's mother, Labrina McDonald, told the San Jose Mercury News the allegation was "laughable" and not true.

|Newton has returned to practice eight days after an automobile accident left him with two fractures in his lower back.
Analysis: Newton, wearing a long sleeve black shirt under his red practice jersey and a helmet, participated in all of the team drills Wednesday and did some throwing during the portion of practice open to the media. He didn't do much running. Coach Ron Rivera is expected to address Newton's status for Sunday's game against the Browns later Wednesday.

|The New York Jets have released cornerback Josh Thomas, a day after he wrote on Twitter that his playbook and passport were stolen.
Analysis: Thomas made an appeal on Twitter on Monday for the items to be returned. A Jets spokesman confirmed that Thomas' team-issued tablet - on which his playbook is stored - was stolen Sunday night in New Jersey. The Jets remotely erased the playbook information from Thomas' tablet. It's not clear whether the incident played any role in his departure. Thomas played in just one game after being signed in October. He was inactive for five of eight games.

|The Jacksonville Jaguars are "leaning more toward playing" Bortles against Tennessee on Thursday night.
Analysis: Bortles sprained his right foot Sunday at Baltimore and has been limited during the team's light practices this week. The rookie is officially listed as questionable against the Titans (2-12), and coach Gus Bradley says he will be put through some pregame mobility tests before the Jaguars (2-12) determine his playing status.

|The Arizona Cardinals have placed rookie defensive tackle Ed Stinson on season-ending injured reserve with a toe injury and elevated wide receiver Brittan Golden from the practice squad.
Analysis: Stinson, a fifth-round draft pick, had seen considerable action before missing four games with the injury. He attempted to come back against St. Louis last week but again was forced to the sidelines by the injury.

Analysis: Griffin takes over for Colt McCoy, who was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury.

|The Washington Redskins have placed Colt McCoy on injured reserve with a neck injury, ruling him out for the final two games of the season.
Analysis: McCoy left the last two games with sprained neck. He was hurt in the first quarter of a 24-0 loss to the St. Louis Rams, then aggravated the injury in the first quarter of Sunday's 24-13 defeat to the New York Giants. Robert Griffin III replaced McCoy in both games and will start Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

|The Tennessee Titans have placed tight end Brett Brackett on injured reserve after he hurt his knee in their loss to the Jets and replaced him by adding tight end Matthew Mulligan.
Analysis: Brackett had been on and off the practice squad and roster between September and October before being signed to the roster the last time Nov. 5. He played in seven games before being hurt Sunday.
